JUST IN: The Justice Department is appealing the new ruling against President Trump’s White House ballroom project, escalating the legal fight just hours after a federal appeals court sided against the administration.

The D.C. Circuit ruled Friday morning that Congress has "plenary control" over the White House and surrounding land, pointing to the demolition of the East Wing without congressional permission.

Trump is blasting the decision as "horrendous, politically motivated, and unlawful," arguing the broader project is "vital for National Security and Military Operations of the United States of America."
